After 30 years Mad Max is set to make another appearance.
Mad Max: Fury Road is directed by George Miller. Miller is the same person that directed the previous three films in the franchise: Mad Max, Mad Max 2 and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. Miller is also known for Happy Feet. Yes, very strange.
This new installment stars Charlize Theron (Monster, Italian Job) and Tom Hardy( Inception, The Dark Knight Rises). Also Nicholus Hoult (X Men) , Riley Keough and Zoe Kravitz.
Mad Max (Tom Hardy), still suffering from the loss of his family, wanders the desert alone. He comes across Furiousa (Charlize Theron) and her gang of female warriors, getting over their differences they decide to work together to escape Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne) and his post-apocalyptic thugs.
What should you EXPECT:
So you haven’t ever seen a Mad Max film or it’s been 30 years since you have seen one and are wondering what you could be getting into by going to the theater. Is it worth the 10 or so dollars? My answer to that question would be…
This like any of the action movies you have seen lately, is amped up on Red Bull and crack.
Mad Max: Fury Road is essentially a feature length car chase. You might think car chase? For an entire movie?! Whaaa? Boring. Nope. Not even.
You can also expect to see a lot of sand and a bald, one-armed Charlize Theron. Still looking friggin gorgeous.
A majority of the film took place in the Namib desert which is described as being a maddening experience by Charlize Theron. The setting and the fact that a lot of this was filmed while in a vehicle caused tension between Theron and co-star Hardy.
What is the SAME…
You can expect what you loved from the other Mad Max movies to be the same from this one.
The new Mad Max film is directed by the same director: George Miller. Therefore, the style that has come to be associated with the series will be there.
The vehicles are important! Colin Gibson, production designer, combed Australian junk yards to create the vehicles seen in Fury Road. The same 1974 Ford Falcon XB GT coupe that Mel Gibson drove in Mad Max is going to be starring in Fury Road just much more haggard.
What is DIFFERENT…
No Mel Gibson! Instead we have young and chiseled Tom Hardy. I am a go. Hardy has played in some excellent roles and I am excited to see what he will bring to Fury Road. If you are a fan of that accent though prepare to be saddened. He has somewhere between 4-20 lines the entire film.
So this sums up what’s going on with the lastest installment to the Mad Max series.
Seeing as it took so long to get this puppy to theaters and all the hard work that was put in I suggest you go see it. Depending on sales, there may be three more movies in the future!
The future belongs to the mad and May 15th belongs to Mad Max: Fury Road.
